My Interest As A English Teacher - 971 Words

The second category, Discovery, helped me find what major I am interested in because when I enrolled at UNLV I decided to go in as undeclared. But, I know that I am confident in declaring English as my major. The first assignment that helped me discovery my interest as a English teacher was the Boys and Girls Club Volunteer assignment. Volunteering at the center opened my eyes to the work entail a teacher constantly goes through day in and day out. I was only there for a few hours and I was completely drained. However, this was a new experience for me and I enjoyed it. I loved helping students with their homework and interacting with them. I decided that if I had the chance to teach in Japan I would want to teach elementary school students. The second assignment that helped me discovery my major was the in-class activities I participated in COLA. From the interview, I learned that English is a social subject whether it is direct or indirect. Personally, I like direct interactions bec ause I can see the persons face and expression which makes it easier to communicate. The in-class activities such as UNLV Trivia and group bonding game, made me realize that I want to work in a social environment and be able to work with others around me. The third assignment that helped me discover being an English major was the Scholarly Research assignment. This assignment allowed me to look into all the career options that I was interested that related to English.
